Introducing the Consultant Dermatologist Tick: Ensuring Transparency in Dermatology Credentials
When seeking expert care for skin, hair, and nail conditions, it is essential to know that your specialist has undergone the highest level of accredited training. In the UK, all consultant dermatologists complete extensive training, including obtaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Dermatology, before being listed on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register.
To help patients and the public easily identify fully accredited consultant dermatologists, the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) has introduced the Consultant Dermatologist Tick. This certification serves as a clear and reliable indicator that a doctor has completed the full training pathway required to practice as a consultant dermatologist in the UK.
The Consultant Dermatologist Tick can only be used by BAD members who are on the GMC specialist register for dermatology, and it must always include the doctor’s GMC number for verification. This initiative promotes transparency and ensures that patients can confidently choose a qualified dermatologist for their care.
When looking for a skin specialist, always check for the Consultant Dermatologist Tick to ensure your doctor has the recognised expertise and training to provide safe and effective dermatological care.
